Are You Considering the Dell 5310n Printer?
The Dell 5310n laser printer works well right out of the box. Mainly for use in small (no more than 10) computer networks or as a really durable home-based business printer, the 5310n can be had at a price well under its current list of about 900 dollars. If you need a high-speed black-and-white laser printer that's easy to hook up to a computer or a series of networked computers, then the Dell 5310n could be the one for you. Additionally, the ease of use of its cartridge (Dell 5310n Toner) is a definite plus.
What's the Speed? The Dell 5310n is capable of about 50 pages per minute of print product, which is probably more than enough for almost any circumstance a small network may encounter. Also, it would be unusual to have a need for anything faster than that, given the characteristics of most of the networks which would use a printer like this one. Lastly, it warms up fast (about one minute) and it only takes ten seconds if it's idling, waiting on another job.
Ease of Installation. The Dell 5310 Toner is designed for ease of installation when the time comes to get it hooked up. A CD is included which has all the necessary drivers and applications for upload to the selected computer or network server. Modern Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports are readily at hand, making it even easier to get the printer placed into service.
Compatibility. The 5310n works with Windows-based computers, Macs, or UNIX platforms. It has 128 megabytes of internal memory, making it more than adequate for most any print job. Also, up to 640 megs of external memory can be piled on. It has no problem working well with Vista, XP, 2000, ME and many Mac OS versions, in addition to NT, Linux and Citrix platforms.
Print Output. The Dell 5310n can go 250,000 pages in a duty cycle before needing maintenance. The Dell 5310n laser toner cartridge that comes standard with the machine will print about 10,000 pages before it needs to be replaced. For most small networks, it should last a good while, which helps to control printing costs per page. If you need more output, you can always buy the optional 20,000 page cartridge.
Paper Storage. The Dell comes with a standard 500-sheet tray. If you want more, purchase a couple optional storage trays, and you can load up this machine with over 2500 sheets of paper, which will help add to its 47 pounds of normal weight. Overall, the 5310n is very easy to install, keep up, and utilize.
Remember This. Dell 5310n laser toners are widely available, both from Dell and from several vendors. If you want to spend a bit more money, you can go with a 20,000 page cartridge, though the standard capacity is probably enough for most small networks that'll be using this printer. Additionally, produced printed page quality is pretty good.
