Samsung QX410 Review
Elegantly designed and well-equipped, the Samsung QX410 delivers numerous value and appears good executing it. This 5-pound notebook incorporates a fast Intel Core i5-460M processor, Intel's Wireless Display technology, and Nvidia's GeForce 310M graphics with battery-saving Optimus technology.
Design
Encased in silvery aluminum by using a sophisticated brushed metal treatment, the Samsung QX410's lid and deck produce an upscale feel. An increased logo crafted in reflective metallic letters tastefully proclaims Samsung's handiwork. Tipping the scales for a modest 5 pounds, the laptop measures 13.7 x 9.7 x 1.1 inches. Unlike other fashionable notebooks carved from the single block of metal (for instance the MacBook Pro), the QX410's aluminum style doesn't continue to the undercarriage. Above the keyboard, there are a circular power button by using a subtle blue LED, dedicated volume and mute controls, and a wireless on/off button.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The chiclet-style keyboard is full-sized and will receive few complaints all sorts of typists. The "clickpad," however, is really a different story.The QX410-J01 relies on a "clicking touchpad," in which the mouse buttons are created into the touchpad itself. This strategy works beautifully on Apple MacBooks, but up to now nobody is now this right. HP completed it and failed with the HP 14-1110NR, and today Samsung is attempting the same. In the QX410-J01 the integrated list of mouse buttons interfere with the touchpad's function, specifically if you surf with two fingers-one for dragging, the other for clicking the mouse button. The touchpad multitouch gestures don't help. It's confusing the second finger as being a command to pinch-to-zoom, enlarge, or scroll. When the gestures aren't recognized incorrectly, the cursor jumps derived from one of end to the other. A straightforward work-around will be to navigate and click on which has a single finger.
Display and Audio
The Samsung QX410 is graced with a bright 14-inch LED-backlit display. From a glossy, flat bezel--which Samsung means as "Edge-to-Edge Glass"--the laptop's screen features a 16:9 widescreen format. The display's 1366 x 768-pixel resolution is standard for just a notebook this size, and DVD movies looked decent. The QX410's glossy coating is really a reflection magnet. Viewing angle performance was a student in line using what we've seen off their portables, namely the Sony VAIO EA and Dell XPS 14, allowing groups to have the show.
Ports and Webcam
The included Webcam includes a maximum video resolution of 640x480 pixels, and had suitable contrast and picture to off a decent Web chat, but is far from high-definition.Despite a thin body, the Samsung QX410 includes a standard method of getting ports, that go over most bases. The Samsung QX410 contains a 2.53-GHz Intel Core i5-460M processor that scales as much as 2.8-GHz dynamically. 4GB of RAM handle memory duties, while a considerable 640GB hard drive (5,400-rpm) covers data storage needs.With Windows Home Premium as the laptop's OS, the QX410 notched an impressive PCMark Vantage score of 5,977.The notebook copied a 4.97GB folder of mixed media at a rate of 21.6MBps; that's below the average for your machine this size, that is 24.6 MBps.
Battery life and Wireless
Intel Wireless Display, as we've revealed before, is really a useful wireless protocol for transmitting audio and HD video content into a TV without wires. WiDi requires the make use of a $99 Push2TV box from Netgear, which can be sold separately. Other technologies just like Apple's own AirPlay and bulky solutions from HP and Asus' WiCast offer slightly different solutions, also wireless. Wireless Display blocks content from DVD or Blu-ray playback, but it really remains used by home users aiming to make their laptops effortlessly work as part of your home entertainment setup. Considering the already low price of the QX410, it is a nice add that is not really costing any extra.Now, this battery conservation: while Optimus provides some gain on battery life weighed against laptops this size with dedicated graphics that are not deterred when not being used, the Samsung QX410 lasted for 3 hours and 29 minutes using the included six-cell battery. Ok so when I buy a laptop, what should I look for in the processor? My current Dell Studio 1555 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.00GHz.

Honestly if you're using it for everything but games all you really need is worry about nowadays is that it's dual core and you have enough RAM (minimum 2GB but nicer to have 4GB especially with Windows 7). If you're a gamer, changes are you'll want a higher GHz, for instance my gaming rig is a dual core 3.0GHz system. That's about all you need.
The only other thing I guess there is to know is some processors are quad cores and they might have a lower GHz then some dual cores but they are still better overall most of the time, but again this isn't something you really need to worry about unless you're looking for a system to play games on, and since you're using a laptop, that's probably not the case.
