Is A 17-inch LCD Monitor From Acer The Right Choice?
Now that you’ve decided that you want a new LCD monitor for your home or office computer, you have a few more things to decide. You’ll have to figure out what size you want, be it a 17" LCD monitor or a 22" one or a cinema display even. You’ll also have to decide on the color of the monitor casing; it’s usually black, white or grey. Read on for some guidance to help you make the best decision.
Weighing Your Options
And, whether you want a 22" or a 17" LCD monitor, there’s so much to consider, not the least of which is what brand to buy – like Acer, Toshiba, e-Machines or Dell, to name a few. The first consideration should obviously be your budget. A middle-of-the-road brand like Acer is usually a solid bet, for example, since it’s not going to cost you as much as an HP might, but it’s also going to come with a lot of the same features as a top of the line monitor would, including the warranty. If money is no object, you can certainly buy a pricey model like one from HP or even Apple. It’s also important to note that a name brand will likely last longer and offer a better quality image.
Does Size Matter?
Next, you’ll need to think about what size monitor you want to have. A 17" LCD monitor is great for light PC users, for example. Gamers, on the other hand, might want something considerably larger. Professionals in the media, like editors and photographers, might want a screen that’s two to three times that size. There are also space considerations, like the size of the room or the desk area, that could affect how big your monitor can be.
Digital Or Analog?
Next, you’ll have to be certain that your PC’s video card is compatible with the monitor in question. Although most PC’s these days have digital video cards, some older computers have analog ones and are therefore only compatible with analog monitors. You can also upgrade your computer’s video card to give you more LCD monitor options.
Don’t Sell Yourself Short
While it’s tempting to buy the cheapest monitor you can (like getting a no-name brand instead of a 17" LCD monitor from Acer), you’ll pay for those savings with a less than ideal image on said screen. Make sure you’re getting the best contrast ratio your money can buy, so the blacks are darker and the colors are truer and crisper.
