Be More Knowledgeable of Dell Docking Station
The simultaneous connection of electronic appliances to a Dell laptop is now possible by means of a Dell docking station. DVD players or hard drives also allow for individual connection, plus, a Dell docking station works with the video cards and the high-tech sound system. Before buying a Dell docking station, it is important to check whether the notebook is compatible with your laptop model. The D-series of the docking device thus needs to be checked for the proper performance of the equipment.
Although the Dell docking station allows for home applications the product first aims at businesses that require computer expansions. With an incorporated battery charging module and support for a lot of media, the Dell docking station makes a good asset in terms of price. The number of ports could vary depending on the model, and the same thing happens with the software used for the connection. Normally, the package contains different types of adapters so that the connection issue no longer represents a problem.
Available in regular computer stores, the Dell docking station can be ordered online as well. Enjoy better selection criteria by the comparison services for features and prices available on different retailer web sites. The downside of online shopping is the impossibility to test the product that you are buying. The best idea is to search online for reviews, and see which products enjoy the best ratings. Narrowing the search to just a few products makes choices and the collaboration with the local suppliers easier.
If you have a Dell notebook, there's no doubt that the best docking station is one produced in the same family of products, preferably in the D series. What you gain here is superior compatibility of the devices and an increased efficiency rate. This does not mean that a Dell docking station cannot be used in combination with some other laptop brand. Just be more careful with the technical details and features to prevent possible incompatibilities of software.

Need advice about old Dell desktop I resurrected...?
I managed to have enough old parts in my room to assemble a decent desktop. It's a Dell (has a clam shell style case, if that helps date it), a DVD drive (read only), a CD drive (burn), a P4 processor, 512MB of DDR (Might be 256; I'm at work I can't look at it), 20GB HD (adding two spare 40GB HD's later), Sound Blaster Live! card (black with a DA-15 plug) and a 128MB ATI card (AGP8x). What's the most I can upgrade this? There's a local computer/gaming shop that gives me pretty good deals on older stuff. Just ideas. I'm thinking more about ram and cpu. I've got Fruity Loops and Acoustica Mixcraft on it for my music projects. The only games I'll be playing on it are Drakan, Quake, and Doom.
Answer:
If your motherboard does indeed use DDR RAM, that pretty much dates it in the 2001-2005 range, so I'd expect it to have a socket 478.
If that's the case, you can probably upgrade the CPU to a 3+ GHz Pentium 4 (single core) and the RAM to 2 GB. That puts it at roughly the performance level of a modern netbook. Run CPU-Z to get an accurate description of the current CPU, along with FSB info. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Go to http://www.crucial.com and run their memory tool to get information about the existing memory.
Surprisingly, the AGP video card can actually be upgraded to a pretty respectible Radeon 4670, but I wouldn't recommend doing that.
